Thomas Neri
WELCOME!!
I don’t just take pictures, I observe, see the colours, and notice the beauty of quiet moments.
Photography for me is not just art, it’s capturing the brief moments that make up our lives – our stories.
If this resonates with you, welcome to my website! I look forward to meeting you:)
The Person
Behind the lens
I’m 4 years old, eating breakfast with my Dad. The TV is on, a lone figure stood atop a sinking ship comes into port. Captain Jack Sparrow makes his iconic entrance – my love for movies and acting is born (and pirates!!).
Throughout my childhood, I have a dream of dressing up as characters and entertaining audiences with meaningful stories. I’ve spent hours making short films with friends, building my own worlds and learning from the greats. (I blame Spielberg for my love of a greater depth of field – so you can see more of the world & story)
Naturally, my interest in such a visual craft led me to pick up a camera and experiment, my camera has been everywhere! In all weather and lighting conditions (even half submerged in a swimming pool!). This has given me great confidence working in all environments and lighting scenarios. I am very observant of my surroundings and notice the subtle, human moments which is why I call my style Documentary & Cinematic – I don’t intrude in the moment (unless to guide you to a better setting or pose that best suits you)
Being a photographer is more than a job, for me, it’s a dream come true! I have loved the memories made, people I’ve met who have trusted me to capture their precious moments and look forward to many more adventures. This has led to my personal philosophy of: “Life is Experiences & People”
My Creative Process
Photography has always been more than a job, it’s how I see the world around me. Art is in my family. My Mum studied art history and used to paint, so did my Great Opa (his paintings are in my grandparents kitchen.) As a teenager I would sketch my favourite characters – I have a draw full of them! This includes a mythology I’m still working on to this day (I can see why it took Tolkien 10 years to write LOTR!) I started taking photos as a child of my westie Daisy using the digi cam my Mum gave me, then progressing to a mirrorless camera, with a set of lenses (35mm, 50mm & 75mm) which I use to this day for filming and photography projects. I spend a lot of my personal free time learning cinematography, colour theory and light set ups to create more visually stunning stories, I especially love to create mood boards for all my projects – professional and personal.
My approach to photoshoots is documentary, authentic, discreet, and story-driven, with room for relaxed posed portraits. I’m drawn to real reactions, subtle interactions, and the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but end up meaning the most.
Alongside my professional work, I regularly work on personal projects, experimenting and collaborating to keep my work fresh and creatively fulfilled. The best place to see my creative work is through my Instagram, I have documented some projects on my blog too. Photography is my focus in life. Being able to document people’s lives, love stories and personalities for a living is a special feeling to this day!
